The Japanese government will provide 472 million Japanese Yen, or roughly $3.38 million, to the “Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)” project.
The governments of Bangladesh and Japan today inked an exchange of notes and a grant agreement in this regard.
The Exchange of Notes and Grant Agreement was signed by Sharifa Khan, Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD), on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh.
An ERD press release stated that ICHIGUCHI Tomohide, Chief Representative, JICA Bangladesh Office, and IWAMA Kiminori, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, respectively, signed the “Grant Agreement” and “Exchange of Notes” on behalf of the Government of Japan.
The Economic Relations Division of the Ministry of Finance is implementing the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) from 2001 to 2025.
With the help of this award, BCS Cadre Officers, Bangladesh Judicial Service Officers, First Class Officers of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division, and Bangladesh Bank employees would be able to study for their Masters and Ph.D. degrees in various Japanese universities.
Approximately 414 officials have earned master’s degrees through this project, while five officials have earned doctoral degrees from various Japanese universities. Following their return, officials are applying the knowledge and skills they have learned to their jobs and advancing the nation.
Bangladesh’s principal bilateral development partner is Japan. Japan has invested $30.12 billion and made major contributions to the nation’s overall growth since it gained its independence.
Japan offers major grants and technical assistance for a variety of projects, including support for human resource development, socioeconomic development, and environmental protection, in addition to soft loans.
