Tamim Iqbal, one of the country’s most decorated batsmen and widely regarded as the best opening ever created, announced his retirement from international cricket today.
Tamim broke down in tears during a hurriedly planned press conference in Chattogram, prompting the announcement.
On Wednesday, he hit 13 runs in the first ODI against Afghanistan, which became his final match in international cricket. Bangladesh was defeated by 17 runs using the DLS method.
The decision is thought to have been spurred by BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon’s outburst, since Tamim stated ahead of the first ODI that he would test his fitness by playing international cricket.
Papon was enraged, challenging Tamim’s professionalism and asking how a player could take International cricket so casually!
After Tamim was ejected from yesterday’s competition due to a loose shot, some BCB directors questioned his dedication to the squad.
