Bangladesh signs aviation collaboration agreement with the United Kingdom

Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have signs a joint statement on aviation collaboration, under which the South Asian country will be able to “get loan to buy aircraft from Airbus.”

“This deal demonstrates the UK’s commitment to strengthening Bangladesh’s aviation industry, in turn helping to create jobs in both countries,” Lord Dominic Johnson of Lainston CBE, the minister of state in the Department for Business and Trade, tweeted after the signing in London on Friday.

The statement was signed on behalf of the Bangladesh government by Salman F Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s adviser on private sector and investment.

The signing event was attended by the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Trade Envoy to Bangladesh Rushanara Ali MP.

The prime minister is in London right now to witness King Charles’ coronation. She also met Sunak in their first bilateral encounter, as well as attending a reception thrown by King Charles and a conference of Commonwealth leaders.

According to a media statement, the agreement is expected to boost Bangladesh’s trade and investment links with the United Kingdom and other European Airbus partners, as well as the development of Bangladesh’s aviation industry.

Under the agreement, Bangladesh can also obtain long-term financing facilities from the UK Export Finance scheme on favorable terms for the acquisition of aircraft from Airbus.

Following the signing of the agreement, Salman stated that as a result of this endeavor, a long-term and successful connection between Airbus and the flag airline, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, can be developed.

He believes the current relationship between Bangladesh, the UK, France, Germany and the European Union can be strengthened further through the initiative.
