Prince Harry will be scrutinized at his father King Charles III’s coronation, as he rejoins the other royals for the first time since criticizing them.
Harry, 38, will attend the event in Westminster Abbey on May 6 without his wife Meghan or their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The American former television actress will be celebrating Archie’s fourth birthday inside their California home, avoiding possible unpleasant confrontations with her increasingly estranged in-laws.
Since relocating in 2020, the couple has constantly chastised the monarchy, ratcheting up their attacks in recent months through a series of televised interviews and in Harry’s memoir.
In his shocking autobiography, “Spare,” released in January, the prince detailed years of family conflict, including allegations that his elder brother, Prince William, physically assaulted him during a disagreement about Meghan.
Harry informed developmental specialist Gabor Mate in early March that he came from a “broken home” and was trying not to pass “trauma” on to his children.
Buckingham Palace only confirmed Harry’s attendance earlier this month, after months of speculation over his attendance.
“A lot of eyes will be on him,” said Pauline Maclaran, from Royal Holloway University of London, who has written a book about Meghan’s impact on the monarchy.
“People will be fascinated to see the interaction between him and other royals,” she told AFP.
