The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) hired former South African batsman Nic Pothas as the national team’s assistant coach today.
The 49-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the BCB and will join the Bangladesh squad in the UK next month for the three-match ODI series against Ireland, according to a BCB release.
Pothas has spent the last ten years as the head coach of the West Indies (2018-2019) and Sri Lanka. (2017-2018).
He had also served as the West Indies’ assistant coach and fielding coach, as well as Sri Lanka’s head fielding coach. Pothas was the Hampshire County Cricket Club’s wicketkeeping coach before moving to Bangladesh.
Pothas was a right-handed batsman who played in three One-Day Internationals for South Africa and scored over 16,000 first-class and List A runs.
Pothas expressed his enthusiasm at the idea of working with Bangladesh.
“I am honoured to commit to the Bangladesh National Team. The depth and array of talent running through Bangladesh is exceptional and I believe we have some exciting years ahead of us,” he said.
