Customers were inconvenienced for six hours after a technical error in Bangladesh Bank’s payment server impeded ATM, internet banking, and POS transactions.
It discovered the flaw after services were restored at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
“There was a technical glitch in the networking system. The problem was solved at 6pm. The system is functioning properly now,” said central bank spokesman Sarwar Hossain.
According to the central bank, these systems process Tk 40 billion in transactions every day.
Customers began complaining about the services after 12pm, forcing banks to cease inter-bank transfers due to a problem in Bangladesh’s National Payment Switch.
