In Sylhet on Monday, the second One-Day International of the three-match series between Bangladesh and Ireland was called off due to heavy weather.
Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, and Naimul Hossain Shanto had outstanding batting performances as Bangladesh batted first and scored 349 for six, their best total in ODIs, according to UNB.
In the process, Mushfiqur smashed a century off just 60 balls — quickest century for Bangladesh, breaking Shakib Al Hasan’s record of scoring a century off 63 balls which was set in 2009 against Zimbabwe in Harare.
However, Bangladesh’s joy of recording their best ODI total was unable to bring more joyous occasion as the rain denied Ireland the chance to take the field.
Around 8:30 p.m. local time, the game was abandoned because rain started falling after the first innings and showed no signs of ceasing.
The first game was won by Bangladesh by a run total of 183, which was their largest run victory.
On March 23 at the same location, the third and concluding ODI will take place. Following the ODI series, the sides will square off in a three-match T20I series in Chattogram, which will be followed on March 8 by a lone Test in Dhaka.
