Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday on the first trading day of the year, after Wall Street ended down, with investors eyeing the appreciation of the yen.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index lost 0.99 percent, or 259.57 points, to 25,834.93 at the open, while the broader Topix index fell 0.66 percent, or 12.52 points, to 1,879.19, reports BSS.
