Today was the 51st anniversary of the creation of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the nation’s flag airline.
The carrier’s journey with a DC-3 aircraft began on January 4, 1972, under the direction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, known as the Father of the Nation.
For the convenience of its passengers, Biman released its mobile app with a “new look” and loyalty club on the occasion of the company’s 51st founding anniversary, according to this news release.
Biman Managing Director and CEO Shafiul Azim attended as the principal guest to a conversation in the conference room of the airliner’s headquarters, “Balaka,” along with other directors, executives, and staff members.
In his speech, Biman’s managing director challenged the company’s staff to give their jobs their all in order to push the airline into the top 10 in Asia.
According to him, numerous measures have been made to transform Biman into a “smart aircraft” in “Smart Bangladesh,” in keeping with the goal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
On Tuesday, at a press briefing on the eve of the 51st anniversary of the carrier at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Biman CEO said that Biman would operate this year’s Hajj flights with its own aircraft.
“We won’t take any aircraft as lease to operate the hajj flights,” he added.
Biman recently successfully completed a “C” check of five Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft at Biman’s hangar here, saving a total of Taka 20 crore.
The present Biman fleet consists of 21 aircraft, including 18 of its own aircraft, and it travels to 20 foreign locations.
