The public will be able to use the metro line starting Thursday morning

After Bangladesh’s first-ever elevated train service was launched by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday morning, the much-anticipated metro rail will finally be accessible to the general public.

At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the prime minister unveiled a plaque to officially declare open the 11.73km section of MRT Line-6, the metro rail project that runs from Diabari to Agargaon.

The metro trains would first run continuously from Uttara to Agargaon stations from 8 am to 12 noon every day.

The 11.73-kilometer journey from Uttara to Agargaon will take 20 minutes at first, but eventually, it will only take 16–17 minutes.

The trains won’t stop at every station initially. They will depart from the Uttara station, make a stop at Pallabi, then continue directly to Agargaon. Trains will begin to stop at intermediate stations later.

The trains will initially hold 200–250 passengers, and afterward 700–800 passengers.
