As it is everywhere else in the globe, Bangladesh also observed holy Christmas today, which is the largest religious celebration of the Christian community and honors the birth of Jesus Christ.
On this day, which is celebrated as a public holiday in Bangladesh and the majority of other nations, the Virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President M. Abdul Hamid both sent greetings to the Christian community in separate messages on this occasion.
With great zeal and religious fervor, the Christian community observed the event by holding special prayers, lighting churches, and setting up temporary Christmas trees in people’s homes, houses of worship, and missions.
The sound of church bells at midnight signaled the beginning of the day, and believers gathered in churches and other places of worship to welcome it with carols.
Churches and the surrounding areas were decorated with brightly colored, tiny blinking lights, and illuminated Christmas trees with stars perched right on top, while elderly members of the neighborhood dressed as Santa Claus made fun of kids and distributed gifts as part of a common Christian tradition.
Security was beefed up at different strategic points in the capital and many other places of the country to ensure a peaceful celebration of the festival.
Special prayers were said in the city’s churches, including St. Christina’s Catholic Church on Asad Avenue, Holy Rosary Church in Tejgaon, and St. Mary’s Cathedral in Kakrail, asking God’s blessings for the welfare, peace, and prosperity of the nation, its citizens, and all of humanity.
