Noel Le Graet, the head of the French Football Federation (FFF), stated in an interview that he wants Didier Deschamps to continue as the coach of France after his present contract expires at the end of the year.
After leading Les Bleus to the World Cup title four years ago, Deschamps, 54, guided them to the championship game on Sunday, where they fell to Argentina in a penalty shootout.
Next Monday, Deschamps and Le Graet will meet in the northwest town of Guingamp to discuss extending the former Juventus midfielder’s contract until Euro 2024. Deschamps led the 1998 France side to their first World Cup victory.
“In my opinion we will settle it in Guingamp,” Le Graet told newspaper Ouest-France.
“If he doesn’t want to stay, it will be short. If he wants to stay then there will be discussions that are a little longer.
“Didier has done his job well, I think we’ll come to an agreement,” he added.
France’s next game is against the Netherlands in a Euro 2024 qualifier on March 24.
