German court convicts 97-year-old in one of last Holocaust trials

In what may have been Germany’s final Holocaust trial, a judge on Tuesday found a 97-year-old former Nazi camp secretary guilty of participating in the killing of more than 10,000 people.

Irmgard Furchner received a two-year sentence with a two-year suspension from presiding judge Dominik Gross for her part in what the prosecution called the “cruel and deliberate murder” of captives at the Stutthof camp in occupied Poland.

Furchner was found guilty of thousands of counts of accessory to murder while she sat in a wheelchair in the courtroom while sporting a white cap and a surgical mask.
