In a Central African IED explosion, three Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed and one was injured

In the early hours of this morning, three Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and one was injured when the vehicle they were traveling in struck an explosion caused by an IED in the Central African Republic.

According to a press release from the Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR), the vehicle of the Bangladeshi peacekeepers participating in the operation under the United Nations peacekeeping mission was destroyed by an IED explosion at 8:35 p.m. local time on Monday (1:35 a.m. Bangladesh time Tuesday).

The three fallen peacekeepers have been identified as Sainiks — Jashim Uddin (31) of Brahmanbaria, Jahangir Alam (26) of Nilphamari, and Sharif Hossain (26) of Siraganj.

The injured peacekeeper has been identified as patrol commander Major Ashraful Haque.

Jashim Uddin, Jahangir Alam, and Sharif Hossain were certified dead by the on-call doctor at a hospital in Bouar, Central African Republic, shortly after the incidents.

But Major Ashraful Haque is receiving care at the same facility.

The ISPR report noted that other troops stationed in the Central African Republic are safe and that steps are being taken to bring the dead soldiers’ bodies to the nation as soon as feasible.
