The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, is an honor bestowed by the Japanese government to Md. Ekhlasur Rahman on Thursday, according to UNB news.
At the official residence of Ito Naoki, the Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh, Ekhlasur, the director of Yamagata Dhaka Friendship General Hospital, was presented with the honor for his support of Japanese citizens in need of medical care in Bangladesh and for his contribution to fostering medical relations between Bangladesh and Japan.
Md. Ekhlasur Rahman is the first physician in Bangladesh and the fourteenth Bangladeshi to be awarded the honor by the Japanese government.
Ambassador Naoki conveyed his appreciation to Ekhlasur for offering the Japanese people in Bangladesh high-quality medical care and treatment.
“The 300-year-old Japanese Edo period dictums ‘medicine is a curing profession’ and ‘medical practice is a benevolent act’ exactly describe Dr Rahman,” he said.
At Yamagata University Graduate School of Medicine, where he earned his PhD in 1996, Ekhlasur also served as a clinical fellow at Yamagata Saiseikai Hospital.
He founded his hospital in Dhaka in 1997 to offer Japanese-standard care. He was particularly inspired by the Japanese medical system’s approaches to patient care and training future doctors. Additionally, the Japanese community in Bangladesh benefited significantly from his fluency in Japanese.
