In their second group A match in the ongoing sixth edition of the SAFF Women’s Championship, Bangladesh women’s football crushed lowly Pakistan by 6-0 goals, led by captain Sabina Khatun, who blasted a brilliant hat-trick. The match was played today at Dasharath Rangasala Stadium.
Following their 3-0 triumph over the Maldives in their group opener match, the lady in red and green advance one step closer to the semifinals with the victory of the day.
If India, the defending champions, can defeat the Maldives in the second match of the day, which will take place at the same location today evening, Bangladesh’s place in the last four will be assured.
India earlier beat Pakistan by 3-0 goals in their group opening match.
Pakistan went attack early in the very first minute when Julficar Nazi, after taking the ball from midfield with her solo effort, took a close range shot, but Bangladesh custodian Rupna Chakma brilliantly foiled the attempt.
However, Bangladesh had to wait a short while before taking the lead. In the third minute, Monika Chakma scored Bangladesh’s first goal with a strong strike before Sabina worked hard from the right flank.
In the eleventh minute, Sirat Jahan Swapna’s strong shot from a vantage point harmlessly flew over the crossbar as Bangladesh once more came dangerously close to scoring.
Despite controlling the game, Bangladesh had to wait until the 28th minute to score their second goal. Following a team assault, Sirat Jahan Swapna was given the ball by the captain after a feed from Maria Manda to Sabina, who then made no mistake in doubling the advantage with a perfectly placed shot.
Sabina scored the third goal for Bangladesh in the 31st minute with a gentle tap from inside the danger zone off a pass from Monika Chakma and she further widened the margin from the close range with her second attempt off a cross from Sanjida Akter in the 35th minute.
