While protesting the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) questioning of Sonia Gandhi in connection with the National Herald Case, police reportedly apprehended former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and a number of Congress members from Vijay Chowk in this city today, according to sources.
In an effort to alert the President to the alleged abuse of government agencies, Rahul Gandhi and the other Congress members had gathered at Vijay Chowk and were marching toward the Rashtrapati Bhavan when they were halted by police.
According to a report from news agency PTI, Gandhi was placed on a police bus, but officials withheld the location to which they were transporting him.
Other Congress MPs at the Vijay Chowk protest site were detained and taken away in separate police buses.
“All Congress MPs stopped at Vijay Chowk and prevented from marching to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Forcibly arrested. Now we are in police buses being taken to a place only PM and HM know where,” Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh tweeted.
As Sonia Gandhi made her second appearance before the ED for interrogation in a money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper, the Congress MPs had previously assembled at Parliament to discuss the party’s strategy, according to sources.
In the same matter, Rahul Gandhi has previously gone before the investigating team for questioning.
