After negotiations between President Emmanuel Macron and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in Paris on Monday, France was promised fresh energy supplies from the United Arab Emirates.
As Western nations scurry to find energy arrangements globally to replace supplies from sanctioned Russia, the UAE has emerged as a crucial ally.
Since taking power in May, when his half-brother passed away, Sheikh Mohamed, popularly known as MBZ, had made only one other country a part of his official visits.
An agreement “for collaboration in the domain of energy supplies” was signed after a meal between the two heads of state by French energy giant Total Energies and UAE national oil company ADNOC.
Before the meeting, Macron’s advisers had stated that France was ready to purchase diesel from the important Middle Eastern country.
According to the Emirati state news agency WAM, Sheikh Mohamed informed Macron that “the UAE is keen to promote energy security in the globe in general and in France in particular.”
