Because of his mental and physical health, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has advised Shakib Al Hasan to take a break from all forms of cricket till April 30.
He will miss Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa as well as some of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
Shakib had already requested a break, claiming that he is not enjoying cricket at the time since he is not in good physical or mental shape. He stated that he requires a break to refocus his mind and that he may rejoin the team in South Africa for the Test series after consulting with BCB.
But BCB Cricket Operations chairman Jalal Younus today informed that Shakib applied rest from the entire South Africa tour and the board has approved it.
“I talked to Shakib today about the tour of South Africa. I called him. I want to know his plan and he said he still thinks that he is mentally and physically unfit. That’s why he wants to skip the tour of South Africa. Since Shakib doesn’t want to play now, we are giving him a break. He has been rested from all forms of cricket until April 30,” Younus said here today.
Shakib has previously stated that he wants the BCB to devise a year-long plan for him because he only wants to play white-ball cricket with two World Cups (T20 and ODI) coming up in the next two years.
Shakib will return to Bangladesh on Thursday night, according to Younus, and discuss his future plans with BCB.
