IS claims responsibility for mosque attack in Pakistan

At least 57 people have been killed in a terrorist attack outside a Shi’ite mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan’s northwest city. A total of 194 individuals were hurt. The terrorist group ISIS has claimed responsibility for the incident. Peshawar police said the bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a mosque during Friday prayers. The Dawn’s News

Moazzamjah Ansari, the Inspector General of Police of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stated two policemen had been sent to monitor the mosque before Friday prayers in a statement released on Saturday (March 4th). Two shooters emerged during the prayers and opened fire on them. One police officer was murdered instantly, while another was critically injured.

He went on to say that the terrorists used 5-6 kg of explosives in the attack. There was no previous knowledge about the incident, which was carried out by a suicide bomber.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Asif Ali Zardari. Arif Alvi strongly denounced the incident, conveyed his sympathies to the victims, extended his condolences to the victims’ families, and wished the injured a swift recovery in their separate statements.
