France has intercepted a cargo ship bound for the English Channel bound for the Russian city of St. Petersburg. French officials say the ship was detained in compliance with new EU sanctions.
The 128-meter-long Russian cargo ship, the Baltic Leader, was intercepted by the French navy in the Channel and taken to the northern French port of Bologna-sur-Mer.
Arab News reports that the ship was taken to a French port at the request of the French government. It is suspected that the target of the EU sanctions against Moscow is related to a company.
French border guards are currently investigating the cargo ship. The Baltic Leader’s crew is cooperating with the French authorities.
