Despite political opposition and concerns from the UN’s health agency, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce on Monday that all pandemic legal restrictions in England would be lifted.
Johnson will address parliament to detail his approach two years when Covid-19 created the worst health catastrophe in centuries, despite news on Sunday that Queen Elizabeth II had tested positive for the first time.
Opposition parties, on the other hand, accuse him of attempting to divert public attention, putting his leadership in jeopardy while police investigate a series of lockdown-breaching parties in Downing Street.
“Today (Monday) will mark a moment of pride after one of the most difficult periods in our country’s history as we begin to learn to live with Covid,” Johnson said in a Downing Street statement.
