Ebadot Hossain, a fast bowler from Bangladesh, was nominated for the ICC Player of the Month award for his impressive performance in Bangladesh’s first Test victory over New Zealand last month.
Bangladesh beat New Zealand by eight wickets in the first Test, with Ebadot taking six for 46 in the second innings. It was the Tigers’ first-ever win on New Zealand soil. Bangladesh was then defeated in the second Test, resulting in a 1-1 tie in the series. However, it was a historic series for the Tigers, given the victory came at a time when their Test performance had plummeted.
Dewald Brevis, a future star from South Africa, and Keegan Petersen, also from South Africa, were nominated for best player for the month of January alongside Ebadot.
“Eleven Tests, 18 wickets, and a career-best of 6 for 46 made Ebadot Hossain the newest phenomenon of Bangladesh cricket,” the ICC stated about Ebadot. Last month, the 27-year-maiden old’s five-wicket haul helped Bangladesh defeat ICC World Test champions New Zealand by eight wickets in the first Test at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. After making his international debut against the Kiwis in 2019, Ebadot Hossain comes into the Test match with 11 wickets in ten games.
In the first innings, Hossain picked just one wicket for 75 runs but when the Kiwis batted for a second time, Ebadot Hossain delivered his career-best performance, as the right-arm pacer dismissed Will Young, Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell within a space of 11 balls to put Bangladesh on top at stumps on Day 4.”
Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Nasum Ahmed, and female cricketer Nahida Akter were previously nominated for the Player of the Month title from Bangladesh. Shakib and Mushfiqur were the eventual winners of the prestigious prize.
Chamari Athapaththu, captain of the Sri Lankan T20I squad, Deandra Dottin, West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin, and Heather Knight, leader of the England squad, competed in the women’s division.
