After completing his 14-day quarantine, Bangladesh spin bowling coach Rangana Herath was eventually welcomed back into the team ahead of the two-match Test series against New Zealand.
After landing in New Zealand, he tested positive for Covid-19.
“MIQ (Managed Isolation and Quarantine) facilities released me today and now I’m so happy to be back with the team,” Herath said in a video message sent by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today.
“At the same time I had a kind of difficult two weeks with that (quarantine) but I’m so glad to be back and looking forward to the tour. At the same time, I must thank the BCB and New Zealand healthcare as they looked after me very well.”
Because they were in close touch with a Covid-positive patient who was flying with them from Malaysia to New Zealand, eight other members of the Test squad, including players and support staff, were asked to undertake extended quarantine.
After Bangladesh players were taken to an extended quarantine, there were worries about the series continuing. However, once all of them tested negative, they began a practice session. Herath, on the other hand, had to finish a 14-day quarantine.
Bangladesh’s players are now in Tauranga, New Zealand, for the final round of their preparation. They were unable to play the two-day intra-squad match scheduled for December 22 and 23 due to the quarantine, but they will play a two-day game against the New Zealand XI on December 28-29.
The first Test begins on January 1 at the Bay Oval in Tauranga, with the second Test beginning on January 9 at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
