Bangladesh has issued a humanitarian aid package for Afghans that includes food and medical help.
According to a foreign ministry press statement issued today, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen presented the information during the OIC’s 17th Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers on Afghanistan, which took place on Sunday in Islamabad, Pakistan.
A high-level delegation led by the foreign secretary includes the Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the OIC, the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan, and the Director-General of the Foreign Ministry’s International Organization.
During the discussion, Masud voiced deep worry about the economic and humanitarian disaster that is approaching for the majority of the Afghan population owing to a severe lack of food, shelter, and social services, which may worsen as winter approaches.
He hoped that Afghanistan’s inclusive socioeconomic development would continue unabated, allowing all segments of society to successfully contribute to the country’s reconstruction and regional unity.
Masud further stated that, as his country strives to improve regional collaboration in order to achieve a vision of shared prosperity for the area, Bangladesh can be a partner in Afghanistan’s development process.
He praised the OIC for holding this exceptional council and asked the leaders to increase collaboration within and outside the OIC in support of the Afghan people.
Bangladesh also reaffirmed its support for a Palestinian state that is sovereign and functional, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
A Senior Officials Meeting preceded the Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers.
The foreign secretary had already opened the Bangabandhu Corner on the High Commission grounds.
