The death toll from Indonesia’s Mount Semeru volcano explosion increased to 34 on Tuesday, according to the national disaster agency, as relief was sent to the damaged area.
According to the agency’s spokesman Abdul Muhari, seventeen people are still missing and about 3,700 people have been relocated as a result of the calamity.
On Saturday, the island of Java’s largest mountain shot a mushroom of volcanic ash into the sky and showered boiling mud, sending hundreds of people fleeing their homes.
The calamity buried entire streets in muck and ash, engulfing homes and automobiles.
Since the catastrophic weekend eruption, rescuers have been battling difficult conditions while searching for survivors and bodies in the volcanic rubble, damaged structures, and ruined vehicles.
