Despite being bottom of Group E with just two points in the preliminary round, the Bangladesh national football team has got a chance to participate directly in the final round of the Asian Cup qualifiers.
According to a press release issued by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the red and green jersey team is ranked 35th as the last team in the list of qualifiers.
Bangladesh, who have drawn eight of the eight matches of Round 2 of the qualifying round, have qualified for the finals as the third-best fifth team. The top 13 teams in Round 2 will take part in the 2023 Asian Cup on a points basis from the preliminary round.
And the 14th to 35th place teams will be able to take part in the final qualifying round. The 36th to 39th ranked teams in the bottom will have to play a play-off match. From there, only two teams can play in the final qualifiers.
A total of 24 teams will participate in the final qualifiers of the Asian Cup. Bangladesh got a chance to play six more matches as they got a place in that list.
