The Bangladesh-India border is currently closed. The government had announced a 14-day border closure from April 26 as the situation in Corona deteriorated in India. This time the ban was extended for another 14 days.
The decision to extend the land border was taken at a virtual meeting chaired by Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen on Saturday (May 8th). Foreign Ministry Secretary (East) Mashfi Binte Shams, who was present at the meeting, told the media.
According to the decision of the meeting, only those citizens of Bangladesh who are in India for medical treatment and visa is less than 15 days will be able to return to the country through Benapole, Akhaura and Burimari border. And those whose visas have expired will be able to return to the country with no-objection letters from the Bangladesh Mission in Delhi, Kolkata, and Agartala. However, even in that case, there is an obligation to stay in quarantine for 14 days following the instructions of the Department of Health.
Earlier, Bangladesh announced to close its border with India for 14 days from April 26 due to the widespread of coronavirus in India. Even if the border is closed, cargo movement will remain normal. Import and export of goods is also going on.
