Tensions have risen again in the Persian Gulf between the United States and Iran. The U.S. military says in a statement Tuesday that Iranian ships were stationed in waters near their base.
It is said that three ships of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards reached the position almost opposite to the ships of the US Navy on Monday.
The U.S. Navy fired three shots at them. After the warning signal, the ships moved to a safe distance.
In Monday’s standoff, Navy officials said that three small vessels commonly used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, swarmed two American ships operating in international waters in the northern area of the Persian Gulf.
The Iranian boats, known as fast attack boats, which U.S. officials said were armed, approached the U.S. Navy patrol ship USS Firebolt and a U.S. Coast Guard patrol boat, the Baranof, officials said. The three Iranian fast attack boats came within 70 yards of both ships, according to officials.
The U.S. military says no one was killed or injured in the clashes. Officials say there is no word yet on Iran’s true intentions.
