Former Pakistan speed star Shoaib Akhtar has called for the postponement of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to the deteriorating situation in India. He even called for the suspension of his country’s Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is set to resume next June.
“Saving people’s lives is more important than cricket,” Shoaib said on his official YouTube channel. “In India, the Corona situation has taken a terrible turn. They should close the IPL if they cannot continue with proper measures. Just because the PSL was postponed does not mean that the IPL is being postponed. I think the PSLO should be suspended in June,” He added.
“The IPL is not important. The amount of money that is being spent there should be spent on buying oxygen tanks. It will save people from death. We don’t need cricket or entertainment at the moment. We want to save the lives of the people of India and Pakistan. I say this emphatically because human life is now in crisis. It is not possible for any government to handle the current crisis. My request to the government and the fans is to help India. India needs many oxygen tanks. Let’s all set up a fund to supply them with oxygen,” he added.
Highlighting the current situation in his country, Shoaib said, “Pakistan is on the brink of collapse. And there is only 10 percent oxygen. But people are not following proper security measures. I am appealing for a curfew in Pakistan for the last 10 to 15 days of Ramadan. No need to go shopping for Eid. People need to be careful to ensure their own safety,” He added.
