Malaysia is going to be Microsoft’s ‘data center area’. And through this data center, Microsoft will invest one billion dollars in the next five years.
The Prime Minister said the investment would come under a new partnership program with government agencies and local businesses.
Inaugurating the ‘Barsama Malaysia’ initiative on April 19 (Monday), Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Seri Muhiuddin Yassin said that as part of the initiative, Microsoft would establish its first “data center zone” in Malaysia with multiple data centers for managing data from different countries.
The investment of these cloud service providers in the country will be between 12 billion to 15 billion ringgit or 291 to 364 million US dollars in the next five years. Under the same program, Microsoft will help about 1 million Malaysians to acquire digital skills by 2023.
Meanwhile, in February, Malaysia conditionally approved the creation, management and provision of hyper-scale data centers by Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and state-owned Telecom Malaysia. This is Microsoft’s biggest investment in the country since then. Malaysia still defends itself as a destination for foreign investment. The biggest investment decline in Southeast Asia occurred in Malaysia.
