After Antarctica, the southernmost continent of the world, this time the coronavirus has reached the Himalayas. One explorer has recently been infected with corona while climbing the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.
According to a report in travel magazine The Outside, citing local officials in Nepal, the Corona-hit adventurer was at the base camp (at an altitude of more than 18,600 feet). He and two other climbers were evacuated by helicopter if they showed signs of coronation. The corona of one of them was later identified.
Mountaineering officials are telling others to maintain social distance after the incident. In addition, a temporary medical camp has already been set up at the base camp.
Everest expedition operator Mingma Sherpa said other expeditions at the camp would not cancel their expedition. Because reaching the base camp and breaking the war is meaningless.
Incidentally, after the spread of Corona in Nepal, the country’s government-imposed restrictions on climbing Everest on March 24 last year, including closing the border. Mountaineering restrictions were lifted in March this year.
According to the Immigration Department of Nepal, about 15,000 Everest-centric travelers have reached Nepal from March to mid-April this year. Of these, 336 people in 36 groups have been allowed to climb the mountain.
Earlier, coronavirus was detected in Antarctica on December 21, 2020, as a remote part of the world.
