Elections for the second phase will be held today in 30 constituencies of West Bengal including Battleground Nandigram. Voting will run from 8 am to 5 pm local time.
Voting will take place in East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Bakura and South 24 Parganas. A total of 161 candidates including 19 women are contesting in the second phase. However, the heavyweight candidate is Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself and her one-time disciple Shuvendu Adhikari. Due to the two-on-one fight, the highest surveillance is in Nandigram.
Meanwhile, central forces are deployed in all 355 booths. Section 144 has been issued.
Besides, the number of booths in 9 assembly constituencies of East Midnapore is more than three thousand. The results will be released on May 2 after eight rounds of voting in West Bengal.
