Myanmar Police in riot gear stormed a protest rally on Sunday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck, killing at least 18 people.
Protesters in Myanmar have again denied military action, a day after at least 16 people were killed in the deadliest violence since a coup a month ago.
They rallied again on Monday (March 1), calling for an international response.
Protesters at a rally in Yangon on Monday chanted “Democracy, our demands, our demands” with pictures of Aung San Suu Kyi. Police with water cannons and military vehicles gathered there at that time.
A live video posted on social media Facebook shows police approaching a crowd chanting slogans on a street in the Shan State of Lazio.
“It’s been a month since the coup. They shot and attacked us yesterday. We will be out again today,” I Thinjar Maang, one of Myanmar’s leading protesters, wrote on Facebook.
Chaos has erupted in Myanmar since the military seized power on February 2, accusing Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy (NLD) party leadership of rigging the election. Suu Kyi was arrested at the time.
