A 250-kg cylinder-like bomb was recovered while digging at the Third Terminal under construction at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The incident took place on Wednesday (December 9) evening. Airport Director AHM Touhid ul Ahsan confirmed the matter.
He said the bomb was found while digging for piling around 9.30 am. Later members of the Air Force’s Bomb Disposal Unit came and defused it.
He said the bomb weighed about 250 kg. Since it is very large, it is not safe to dispose of it here. For this reason, the air force is being taken to the firing range in Rasulpur.
The director of the airport also said that the bomb was initially thought to be from the time of the liberation war.
