Belgium has approved the reopening of shops from 1 December. The country’s prime minister, Alexander de Crow, made the announcement on Friday. However, the semi-lockdown on coronavirus control will continue.
“The coronavirus situation is improving in our country,” de Crow said. However, it is important to continue the lockdown. He warned that this year’s Christmas and New Year’s holidays will be different.
“This year we will celebrate Christmas with our families and a small number of people,” she said. It will be a more intense festival.
“We can’t destroy four weeks of achievement in four days,” he said. He also said that general restrictions across the country would be relaxed from mid-January if the infection continues to decline.
It is to be noted that the second phase of coronavirus infection has recently intensified in Belgium, which is considered a busy travel destination in Europe.
About 560,000 people in the country have been affected by corona so far. More than 17,300 people have died so far.
