The Bangladesh cricket team’s tour of Sri Lanka has been postponed due to the deadly coronavirus. Less than 24 hours after the postponement of the Test series against New Zealand at home, the tour of Sri Lanka was also postponed. Bangladesh was scheduled to play a three-match Test series in Sri Lanka.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has informed the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) that they will not be able to play the scheduled series due to coronavirus.
Bangladesh cricket team has been out of cricket since last March due to coronavirus outbreak. Since the first round of the Dhaka Premier League, the players have been under house arrest due to Corona. So the cricketers have not been able to take part in any practice at Mirpur Stadium yet. Mirpur is in the ‘red zone’ due to corona.
The epidemic has already affected some cricketers. Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe bin Mortuza, left-arm spinner Nazmul Hossain Apu and ODI captain Tamim Iqbal’s elder brother Nafis Iqbal have been affected by the corona.
Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Bangladesh tour was postponed yesterday. New Zealand was scheduled to play a two-match Test series against Bangladesh in August-September. The cricket boards of the two countries suspended the series through negotiations as the situation of the deadly coronavirus did not improve.
Due to Corona, four series of Bangladesh team was postponed this year.
