India was recommended as a candidate for the Asia-Pacific Group of UN member countries and faced no competition to get elected.
Additionally, in an announcement issued hours after the UNSC election results, the Indian ministry of external affairs expressed the dedication to a reformed multilateral system, which considers India’s long-running ambition and demand for a permanent seat on the council.
