Roger Federer has topped Forbes Magazine’s list of the world’s top 100 highest-paid athletes. Federer topped the list for the first time, earning $106.3 million.
The Swiss, a 20-time record Grand Slam winner, topped the list for the first time as a sensational tennis player. In 2019, Federer was fifth on the list. Forbes Magazine has been publishing this list since 1990.
Federer’s earnings over the past year have included 100 million USD in match fees and 6.3 million in prize money. Earlier in 2013, he wrote his name in second place.
Due to the ongoing Corona epidemic, the income of the world’s top 100 athletes has decreased by about 9 percent compared to last year. Due to the lockdown, many are worried that this downward trend of income will continue next year.
Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo is in second place with 105 million USD. Ronaldo’s rival Argentine superstar Lionel Messi is in third place with 104 million USD. Both have been in the top three for the past three years. Their combined income has fallen by about 28 million since March when all forms of sports were banned across Europe.
Brazilian footballer Neymar is in fourth place with an income of 95.5 million dollars. In fifth place is the Los Angeles Lakers NBA star LeBron James, who earned 88.2 million USD.
There are only two female athletes in this list. They are two tennis stars Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams. Japanese star Osaka is in 29th place and American Serena is in 33rd place.
