Bangladesh today decided to start domestic flights. After a two-month hiatus due to the Covid-19 epidemic, limited flights will resume on June 1.
“We have decided to operate domestic flights on a limited scale,” Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary M Mahibul Haque confirmed today. Initially, Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Saidpur routes will be operated. However, flights on international routes have been suspended till June 15.
According to the guidelines of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, all airlines have to leave at least 30 to 25 percent seats vacant on each flight to ensure social distance. There should be a seat gap between at least two passengers if they are not members of the same family.
If any passenger develops Covid-19 symptoms, crew members should contact the destination airport immediately and hand over the suspected patient to the airport health authority upon landing. All airline employees must wear masks, gloves and disposable caps. Similar restrictions have been imposed on aircraft pilots and crew.
Passengers will have their body temperature measured and will have to stand in line in front of check-in counters while maintaining social distance.
