A very super cyclone Amphan is approaching the coast of Bangladesh in a very strong way. Global storm tracker AccuWeather described Amphan as the first super cyclone in the Bay of Bengal since 1999. This is the first super cyclone to form in the Bay of Bengal in the current century.
Amphan is the first super cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal since the 1999 Odisha Cyclone,” AccuWeather’s Lead International Forecaster Jason Nicholls announced as the storm aims to make landfall on coastlines of both Bangladesh and India.
AccuWeather announced the latest indications recommend that the Amphan would make the landfall as either a super cyclone storm or an extremely severe cyclonic storm.
According to the Meteorological Department of Bangladesh, If the current speed-nature is maintained, the cyclone may cross the coast of Bangladesh from the last part of tonight to tomorrow afternoon or evening. A cyclone is usually declared a super cyclone if its wind speed exceeds 220 kilometers per hour. Within 90 kilometers of the center of the super cyclone, the wind speed is 225 to 245 kilometers per hour.
According to the Meteorological Department of India (IMD), In case of passing the territory of India and Bangladesh, its speed may decrease. Although its speed may be higher than cyclone Sidr and Aila. Mrityunjay Mohapatra, director-general of the IMD, said the cyclone could inundate Bangladesh’s surrounding islands, including Hatia, with high tides. At the same time, the main injury may be in the Sundarbans adjoining West Bengal of India and the Khulna-Satkhira area of Bangladesh.
Meteorologists in Bangladesh feared the Amphsan wraths to be very high as its high strength coincided with the “new moon phase” to washout and inundate vast areas of particularly southwestern and central coastlines stretching up to Chottogram.
