Cyclone ‘Amphan’ is moving towards the north in the form of a very Super cyclone and is currently located in the South Bay of Bengal area. The government will start taking residents of low-lying and risky areas of the coast to shelters from Tuesday afternoon.
Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Shah Kamal confirmed on Monday afternoon. Kamal said arrangements would be made to keep people in shelters in compliance with proper health rules as there was an additional danger of the Covid-19 epidemic situation. He said arrangements would be made so that each family member could live together.
In a special weather forecast this morning, Cyclone Amphan, which is located in the southeastern Bay of Bengal and the adjoining southwestern Bay of Bengal, is moving northwards with a very strong form.
The meteorological office said it could become more concentrated and move north-northwest. Subsequently, it may change direction and move north-northeast through the area between Khulna and Chittagong, crossing the Bangladesh coast between late Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon or evening.
Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to display local warning signal number 4.
