Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh has taken over as the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). He took over the mayoral post from Shah Mohammad Imdadul Haque, CEO of the DSCC, at Nagar Bhaban at around 1 pm on Saturday.
Fazle Noor Taposh, a three-time Member of Parliament, was elected as the mayor in the DSCC election on February 1 with the nomination of Awami League. He was then sworn in at the office of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on February 26.
According to the Local Government (City Corporation) Act-2009, his term will start from the first board meeting after taking charge as the mayor. So his term of the new mayor will start from the day he holds the first meeting with the councilors.
The outgoing mayor, Saeed Khokon, held his first board meeting on May 18 after being elected. Tapas took the mayor’s chair about three-and-a-half months after being elected due to constitutional obligations.
After taking over as mayor, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh briefed reporters online at around 3pm with the help of Zoom. After that, its official activities will start on May 16 with the first office.
