National Professor of Bangladesh, Dr. Anisuzzaman died yesterday afternoon at CMH in Dhaka. Later on, farther examination revealed the presence of coronavirus in his body.
The samples were examined at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at 4:55 pm yesterday. Later that night, the hospital physicians confirmed that Anisuzzaman has the presence of corona in his body. Dr. Anisuzzaman’s younger brother Akhtaruzzaman confirmed it.
Anisuzzaman made a tremendous contribution to Bangla language and Bangla literature by his research and writings, He left behind two daughters, a son and his wife to mourn his death.
“I was a student of Sir’s tutorial group,” said PM of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina adding that the death of Anisuzzaman is an irreparable loss to the country. The Prime Minister prayed for his eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
Anisuzzaman was 83 years old at the time of his death. He was also suffering from various diseases due to old age complications. He had various physical complications including heart, kidney, lung, high blood pressure, Parkinson’s disease. He was hospitalized for one week at the end of April.
Anisuzzaman played a major role by actively participating in all democratic movements — from the Language Movement of 1952 to Liberation War in 1971, for the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh in the 1980s, and for the trial of war criminals later.
Anisuzzaman appeared as a witness before the International Crimes Tribunal. He remained a champion for the cause of secularism. He was a vital figure in translating the Constitution of Bangladesh in Bangla in 1972.
His family is trying to bury him between 9 and 10 today (15 May) morning.
