“Until there is a vaccine, the comprehensive package of measures is our most effective set of tools to tackle the virus,” Tedros said.
WHO emergencies chief Michael Ryan recognized the continuous lifting of the lockdowns as a sign of “hope”. But also he warned that in this situation “extreme vigilance is required.”
More than 280,000 people have died because of COVID-19 infections worldwide. Ryan asked nations to increase their public health responses, assuring they can identify new COVID-19 cases, and trace and isolate all contacts, which Ryan said may help to “avoid a major second wave”.
