SDC-Shomoshti Project of CARE Bangladesh organized an event, namely, Private Sector Meet on February 26, 2019 in Dhaka. Shomoshti project is supporting its private sector partners to implement pro-poor business models through applying market for the poor (M4P) approach.
Representatives from different private companies including PRAN, ACI, Bengal Meat, iFarmer, Bank Asia, BRAC bank and Pragati Life Insurance Ltd. made recommendations to reach out rural poor and extreme poor women.
An SDC funded project, Shomoshti, implemented by CARE Bangladesh, reaches out to 180,000 rural households (comprising poor, disadvantaged, and women) with improved technical services that results in higher yields, better prices and increased income. ‘SDC is collaborating with the private sectors for many years and will continue to work more in the future for rural development”- said Sohel Ibn Ali, Senior Program Manager from SDC while taking part in the discussion.
Prabodh Devkota, Assistant Country Director – Program of CARE Bangladesh delivered welcome speech.
“To achieve the SDG goal, private sectors need to harness the inclusive business model which will not only boost the growth, but have an impact in improving lives of the last mile farmers”- said Prabodh.
“Entrepreneurial movement of Bangladesh is uprising and private sectors are gradually moving beyond the CSR boundaries to contribute towards inclusive development”- said Uzma Chowdhury, Director of PRAN RFL Group and Vice President of Bangladesh Dairy Development Forum.
Aamanur Rahman, Director- Extreme Rural Poverty Program of CARE Bangladesh thanked participants, particularly private sector representatives for supporting CARE to reach out disadvantaged women living in rural areas of Bangladesh. He hoped to extend future collaborations with private sector to make market inclusive for rural women.
