To increase awareness about autism and establish the right of autistic children the 12th World Autism Awareness Day has been observed in Bangladesh as well as worldwide on last 2nd April, Tuesday. The theme of this year’s Autism Awareness Day is ‘Assistive Technologies, Active Participation’.
For observing the day and spreading its importance Society of Speech and Language Therapist (SSLT), Bangladesh Therapy and Rehabilitation Foundation, Bangladesh Occupational Therapy Association and ten others Social welfare organizations jointly arranged a public procession on 1st April, Monday. The procession started from Tokyo Square and ended at Adabor Thana via Shamoli ring road. Alhaj Mohammad Sadek Khan, Honorable MP of Dhaka 13th seat, has inaugurated the program.
“Autism is a developmental problem. Autistic children are usually disabled to communicate with others properly,” said Fida Al Shams, President, Society of Speech and Language Therapist.
He also added that “Therapist completing the 5 years long Bachelor of Science on Speech and Language Therapy Program only can properly prescribe and suggest the supporting technologies for an autistic child.”
On this awareness-raising procession, about 1500 mass people joined spontaneously.
