German coach Kurz to leave Adelaide United

German coach Marco Kurz’s contract with Australian club Adelaide United will not be renewed when the season ends, with the two sides sharing no “common vision”.

The former Borussia Dortmund defender has been increasingly at loggerheads with the A-League team’s hierarchy, frustrated at a perceived lack of funding to recruit players.

“After meeting with Marco earlier this week, I informed him of our decision not to extend his contract beyond this season,” said Adelaide chairman Piet van der Pol in a statement.

Kurz, who has been in charge for two seasons after previously coaching a series of German clubs, said it had become clear he was on a different page to his Adelaide bosses.

“During my meeting with Piet, I realised quickly that we do not have a common vision for the future of Adelaide United,” he said.

“Our goals are very different and therefore a renewal of my contract does not make sense.”

He is the second A-League coach to part ways with their club in a matter of weeks after the struggling Central Coast Mariners sacked Mike Mulvey.

Adelaide are currently sixth on the 10-team A-League ladder, 20 points adrift of leaders Perth Glory with five games left ahead of the finals series.
