Shohoz has started to distribute 7,000 helmets to their riders all over Dhaka city from February 11. The distribution is being done through a caravan every day, for a month, from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm. The helmet distribution will take place in key areas of Dhaka including Tejgaon, Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Motijheel, Uttara, and Mirpur.
Maliha Quadir, Founder and Managing Director, Shohoz said, “Deaths from road accidents have been on the rise and we are working towards the solution. We are expecting that this campaign will raise awareness about road safety. We are giving imported helmets as they are effective in reducing the severity of head injuries. According to World Health Organization, wearing a motorcycle helmet can reduce the risk of death in the event of a crash by up to 40% and the chance of a serious injury by up to 70%.”
Road traffic Injury is a major threat in public health sector, thus a social and economic burden in Bangladesh. This campaign will both help to raise awareness about the road safety issues and will also prevent future injuries to both riders and passengers. Bangladeshis are not accustomed to wearing helmets, thus Increasing the usage of helmets is integral for improving road safety.
The distribution event was inaugurated by a cross-functional team from Shohoz: Shezami Khalil, Marketing Director; Md. Nowshad Farhan, Lead, Rider Acquisition and Retention and Saqib Ahmad Raif, Assistant Manager, Marketing.
