Bangladeshi renowned artist Syed Jahangir has passed away. He was 87 years old at the time of his death. He died on Saturday at 11am at his residence of Mohammadpur’s Iqbal Road.
Syed Jahangir was born in 1935 in Satkhira district. Most of his creation is about the villages and nature of villages. For his outstanding artworks, Syed Jahangir received Ekushey Padak in 1985.
In 1977, Syed Jahangir joined Shilpakala academy as head of the arts department. Syed Jahangir was the director of Shilpakala Academy and he started the Fine Arts Division at Shilpakala Academy.
Jahangir was born in Satkhira on 2 January 1935. He graduated in Fine Arts from Government Art Institute of Arts and Crafts, presently Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka. He has been painting for 55 years including 9000 oils, watercolors and mixed medias. Through his career, Jahangir has held 35 solo and 1 group exhibition.
In 1992, the Churshilpi Sangsad gave him special honor. He got Michael Madhusudan Award in 2000 and in 2015 he was honored with Shoshivhushon award.
